DEKRA Invited to Give a Lecture in AMPA IoV Seminar

Apr 27, 2021 Digital & Product Solutions
The annual grand event of Asia automobile industry - Taipei AMPA, Autotronics Taipei and its IoV technology seminar all rounded off on April 17th. DEKRA was invited to give a lecture and be the guest speaker of the forum, analyzing the most updated IoV trend and business opportunities with audience.
Bruce Shiau, Regulatory Senior Director, Business Line EMC&RF, Service Division Product Testing, DEKRA, gave a talk with a topic of Analysis of V2X Industry Trend and Advanced Testing Solutions. He said, IoV is the mini version of IoT in the traffic area. At the moment, there are two complementary communication modes between vehicles, one is Direct (Sidelink), mainly used in V2V, V2I, and V2P operations and with short range; the other one is Network (Up/Downlink), mainly focused on V2X operations with long range. For instance, if an accident happened on the highway, the vehicle or the driver which is farer from the accident location will receive the information early enough, and will be able to change the route and avoid the traffic jam. “Since 5G is widely deployed, its low latency and high capacity also help V2X for further steps.” said Bruce.
Bruce also mentioned about the evolution of V2X technologies, including the battle of DSRC and C-V2X and the frequency bands in different countries. For example, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted new rules for the 5.9 GHz band (5.850-5.925 GHz), and the upper 30 megahertz (5.895-5.925 GHz) for enhanced automobile safety using Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology, so DSRC will be not used gradually; China chose C-V2X instead of DSRC since the first beginning.
Furthermore, he also displayed some of DEKRA’s testing sites, such as Klettwitz Technical Center and Lausitzring Race Track in Germany, and R&D and Connected Vehicle Testing at Malaga in Spain. DEKRA maintains deep engagement with standard alliances, such as 5GAA, OMNIAIR, ETSI and other organizations, to conduct cross-industry technical test and verification activities.
Bruce emphasized, DEKRA provides a comprehensive V2X testing and certification solution, including Cybersecurity, Functional Safety, EMC & RF Testing, Automotive Testing, Product Safety Testing, and Product Certification. In addition, DEKRA offers testing service of two largest communication V2X technologies DSRC and C-V2X, as well as the exclusive eCall testing in Taiwan.
In the afternoon session, Eric Yu, General Manager, Business Line Connectivity, Service Division Product Testing, DEKRA, was invited to be the guest speaker of the forum (hosted by EE Times Editor, Nitin Dahad), sharing the updates V2X technology. Other guest speakers are Cathy Yeh from Microsoft, David Yeh from Silicon Labs, Gabriel Chou from Macronix, and Kai Chiu from Hotai Cyber.
Eric said, it’s too early to say DSRC has DSRC has been totally dead, at least the application will be continue, but C-V2X will be the future focus of V2X. However, governments should harmonize two systems together. Besides, there are still lots of challenges of V2X, for example, open road test scenarios in Taiwan and USA will be totally different, since the density of scooters in Taiwan is quite high. “At last, should you have any V2X, eCall, EV, Autonomous Driving testing or certification needs, please remember, DEKRA can help!” Eric said with confidence.
