Egypt NTRA to Ban Import of 3G-Only Devices

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt sent a notice to manufacturers and importers of telecommunications devices on September 1, 2025, announcing that shipments containing cellular devices operating solely on 3G technology without higher technologies will not be type approved or imported as of October 1, 2025.
The following device types will still be permitted:
  • Devices operating solely on 2G technology
  • Devices operating on 2G, 3G, and 4G technology
  • Devices operating on 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G technology Devices operating on 3G, 4G, and 5G technology
The following device types will not be permitted:
  • Devices operating solely on 3G technology
  • Devices operating on 2G and 3G technology

Brazil ANATEL Ends 1880-1920 MHz Band FDD Equipment Certification

The Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (ANATEL) in Brazil published Ofício nº 246/2025/ORCN/SOR-ANATEL on August 20, 2025, confirming that all new and existing cellular devices (already approved or to be approved) cannot work with FDD Band 2 (1880-1920 MHz). Even for renewal processes, ANATEL confirmed that this FDD band cannot be considered.

Saudi Arabia CST May Require Additional Approval Through New System

The Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) of Saudi Arabia transitioned from the CST Platform to the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) SABER platform earlier this year. Products being imported into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia may need additional approval through this new system, since old CST certificates are not in the SABER system and give the appearance of no compliance record.

Ukraine Allows Wi-Fi 6E Technology

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine published Decree No. 976 on August 13, 2025, which amends the frequency allocation plan to include the 5945-6925 MHz band for Low Power Radio applications starting September 1, 2025.

India MTCTE Certification Now Mandatory For Certain Equipment Categories

The India Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) previously issued a notification on February 25, 2025, which included standards and conformity assessment measures for the following devices:
  • Cellular Customer Premises Equipment
  • Fixed Wireless Phone (Voice and Data Facility)
  • Fixed Wireless Phone (Voice Facility only)
  • Storage Area Network (SAN) Switch
  • Fabric Interconnect Switch
  • Network Security Management Equipment
  • Network Security Analytics Equipment (Managed)
  • Network Security Analytics Equipment (Unmanaged)
  • Content Security Equipment
  • DDoS Protection Equipment
  • Malware Analysis Equipment
  • Web Application Firewall
  • NGSO User Terminals
  • NGSO Integrated Gateway
The notification came into effect on August 25, 2025. The products listed above must now comply with MTCTE in order to be imported to India or produced and sold in India.
