Indonesia Issues and Implements Updated Technical Specifications for 4G and 5G

The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (KOMDIGI/DJID/Postel) has issued and implemented updated technical specifications for 4G and 5G technologies. In accordance with the 2020 IMT (International Mobile Telecommunications) standards, additional technical requirements must be established for mobile communication devices operating in the 2.6 GHz radio frequency band. Concurrently, technical specifications for repeater equipment based on the 2020 IMT standards also need to be formulated. Consequently, Ministerial Decree No. 352 of 2024 must be revoked.
This regulation was promulgated on December 19, 2025, and will enter into force one month thereafter, i.e., on January 19, 2026.

India Exempts Licensing Requirements for Low-Power and Very Low-Power Wireless Equipment

In the Official Gazette published on January 20, 2026, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) officially announced Regulation GSR 47(E). This regulation introduces significant updates regarding the use of the lower 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz): In accordance with Rule 4, Low Power Indoor (LPI) and Very Low Power Outdoor (VLP) wireless access systems operating in this band are exempted from applying for individual operating licenses and frequency assignments.
According to Rule 8 of GSR 47(E), equipment type approval by the WPC (Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing) remains mandatory, and application documents must be submitted in the format prescribed by the notification. Please note that Customs authorities will inspect products operating below 6 GHz in accordance with GSR 47(E) to ensure compliance with WPC specifications. Currently, the WPC is still not accepting certification applications for Wi-Fi 6E.

India BIS Adjusts In-House Lab Requirements

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) published a Circular on December 16, 2025, informing manufacturers that maintaining and in-house laboratory is no longer a requirement for BIS certification. Various alternatives are now permitted for BIS certification including shared testing resources, cluster based testing facilities, and outside labs recognized by BIS or ISO/IEC 17025 accredited labs.

Uzbekistan Postpones RoHS Regulation Implementation Date

The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan published Resolution No. 66 on February 17, 2026, which postpones the implementation date of the Technical Regulation on Limiting the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical Engineering and Radio electronic Products. The Technical Regulation will now come into effect on February 17, 2027.

Qatar CRA Updates QNFAP 2026

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) of Qatar issued a press release on February 8, 2026, announcing the updated Qatar National Frequency Allocation Plan (QNFAP).

Lebanon TRA To Assume Type Approval Responsibility

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Lebanon is in the process of assuming the responsibility of issuing type approval certificates from the Ministry of Telecommunications (MoT).
  • All Type Approval certificates that were previously issued by the Ministry of Telecommunications (MoT) must be replaced by Type Approval certificates issued by the TRA.
  • Holders of MoT-issued Type Approval certificates are required to submit new Type Approval applications to the TRA for the same equipment models.
  • No transition or grandfathering arrangement exists between the MoT and the TRA for automatic migration or recognition of legacy MoT certificates.
  • Until a TRA-issued Type Approval certificate is obtained, the corresponding MoT-issued certificate shall not be considered valid for regulatory purposes.

Moldova ANRCETI Becomes ARCOM

Agenția Națională pentru Reglementare în Comunicații Electronice și Tehnologia Informației (ANRCETI) in Moldova announced on January 14, 2026, that ANRCETI has changed its name to Agenția Națională pentru Reglementare în Comunicații (ARCOM) as of January 1, 2026. ARCOM will continue all previous ANRCETI duties and commitments.
