Egypt NTRA Issues Guidance for IMEI Registration
The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt required International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) registration through the NTRA Digital Service Platform starting January 1, 2025. On January 18, 2025, NTRA sent the following instructions to mobile phone manufacturers and importers to facilitate IMEI registration on the Digital Service Platform:
- Mobile phone identification numbers may only be registered through the Digital Service Platform
- An attached file on the Platform may serve as a reference for identification numbers
- Identification numbers must not be repeated more than once
- For manufacturers, SIM cards must not be turned on or inserted into the mobile phone before the identification number is uploaded to the Platform and the request is accepted
- For importers, the shipping bill number and release request number must be accurately written
- The company will be fully responsible for incorrect identification numbers or any numbers that are not registered
- The IMEI status for all models must be “Accepted.” Any models that have not had their request accepted must have their files reviewed and re-uploaded.
- Data for identification number registration requests must be entered accurately, and adhere to the following instructions:
→ For requests to register identification numbers that are submitted prior to the shipment being displayed on the device, choose the file type “Shipment not displayed on the device.”
→ For requests to register identification numbers that are submitted after the shipment is displayed on the device, choose the file type “Import shipment data” and ensure the release request number is written correctly.
→ For requests to register identification numbers for shipments of spare parts for maintenance purposes (such as an internal board with an IMEI number), choose the file type “Spare parts for maintenance.”
→ For requests to register identification numbers for local manufacturing, choose the file type “Local manufacturing data.”

Tunisia Authorizes 6 GHz Band for Wi-Fi 6E
Tunisia issued a Decision on December 10, 2024, which allows the 5925-6425 MHz frequency band for Radio Indoor Networking Equipment for Data Transmission, allowing for the use of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E technology. This Decision came into effect on December 10, 2024. Equipment that has already been certified will need updated certificates.
Sri Lanka TRCSL To Implement IMEI Registration System
The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) announced on January 6, 2025, the implementation of an IMEI registration system. Beginning January 29, 2025, only TRCSL-registered IMEI enabled devices will be active in local networks going forward.
Indonesia SDPPI changes its name to DJID
The Direktorat Jenderal Sumber Daya dan Perangkat Pos dan Informatika (SDPPI) from Indonesia, is now changing to Direktorat Jenderal Infrastruktur Digital or Director General of Digital Infrastructure (DJID), as a result of the organizational structure of the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) previously, KOMINFO.
The new certificates issued by DJID will include a new logo and new certificate numbering format.
Please be aware of these changes for the upcoming DJID certificate release and posterior label requirements.

Japan JATE ID Label Update
On July 18, 2023, the Japan Information and Communications Council issued an announcement on "Responding to Digital Advancements and Telecommunications Equipment Technical Conditions," proposing partial revisions to the "Terminal Equipment Regulations." Starting from January 1, 2025, the JPA ID will be updated. For terminal equipment products, please add "P" before the JATE ID instead of "D."
Vietnam MIC Issues New SAR Regulations
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) of Vietnam has issued new SAR regulations, primarily targeting handheld and portable wireless communication devices such as mobile phones (HS codes 8517.13.00 or 8517.14.00), laptops (HS code 8471.30.20), and tablets (HS code 8471.30.90). Devices with a radiation power greater than 20mW and an operating distance of less than 20 cm from the human body must comply with these regulations. This standard is equivalent to IEC/IEEE 62209-1528:2020.
1. Starting from July 1, 2026, mobile phone products must comply with the QCVN 134:2024/BTTTT standard to be circulated in the market.
2. Starting from July 1, 2027, all regulated products must comply with the QCVN 134:2024/BTTTT standard to be circulated in the market.
3. Starting from February 15, 2025, regulated products that meet the QCVN 134:2024/BTTTT standard may voluntarily apply for early certification.

CNCA Issues Resolutions and Regulations on Mobile Power Supplies and Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment
The Certification and Accreditation Administration of China (CNCA) has issued the following resolutions and regulations:
Resolution on clarifying the scope of mobile power supplies (0914) for electronic products and safety accessories. On November 26, 2024, CNCA issued a resolution defining the Mobile Power Supply (0914) product category as portable power sources containing lithium-ion batteries and/or battery packs that provide power to electronic and electrical equipment. CNCA further clarified that if a manufacturer does not specify the intended use of a product with a universal output interface, it will be deemed to have the function of a "mobile power supply" and will be subject to CCC mandatory certification requirements.
Implementation rules for mandatory product certification of electric vehicle charging equipment. On December 12, 2024, CNCA announced the release of the Implementation Rules for Mandatory Product Certification of Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment, which will take effect on March 1, 2025.

Taiwan BSMI Includes EV Charging Equipment in Mandatory Certification Scope
The Bureau of Standards, Metrology, and Inspection (BSMI) of Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs has announced that, effective December 25, 2024, conductive AC charging equipment for electric vehicles (limited to a rated capacity of 30 kW or below) and conductive DC/combined charging equipment for electric vehicles (limited to a rated capacity of 30 kW or below) will be included in the BSMI mandatory certification scope. This regulation takes effect immediately.
