2025 CSR Day
Safeguarding Every Step on the Road The DEKRA child caps: for greater safety of little ones in traffic.
DEKRA marked its fourth consecutive year participating in the German Trade Office’s “CSR Day” and, for the first time, extended its child traffic safety program into a mountain community by visiting Municipal Wulai Elementary and Junior High School in New Taipei City. By bringing safety education into the hills, DEKRA aims to protect young road users who face unique challenges on their daily journeys to and from school.
Nestled between forested slopes and river valleys, Municipal Wulai Elementary and Junior High School is known for its dedication to Indigenous cultural preservation and ecological education. Most students are Atayal children, and their school commute often involves winding mountain roads with limited visibility. Helping these children “be seen” became the central focus of this year’s initiative. DEKRA introduced its signature bright-red safety caps, featuring high-visibility fabric and full-surround reflective strips, symbolizing the effort to bring road safety awareness beyond urban streets and into every route children walk—whether in cities, villages, or mountain communities.
During the event, DEKRA staff engaged students through friendly, hands-on learning activities. The children practiced safe street-crossing techniques, learned to identify blind spots, and explored how to stay alert in challenging environments. Through interactive scenarios, they experienced firsthand why visibility is so important. When the students put on their new DEKRA bright-red child caps—with reflective bands catching the sunlight—the increase in visibility was unmistakable. More importantly, the moment underscored DEKRA’s long-standing commitment to protecting children on the road. We hope the safety principles shared during the visit will stay with these young learners and support them throughout their daily journeys.
The safety of children in traffic remains one of DEKRA’s most deeply rooted commitments. This year’s initiative once again underscores the purpose of the DEKRA child caps—helping young road users stay visible and safe. Whether a child is walking through a busy intersection, a quiet neighborhood street, or a narrow mountain trail, their safety should never depend on where they live. The 2025 program in Taiwan reinforces DEKRA’s ongoing efforts to bring road safety education into homes, communities, and the everyday lives of children.
“To stand out, you need to shine!” For 21 years, the bright-red DEKRA child caps with reflective strips all around have been an essential part of our global “A Head for Safety” program. Since the initiative began in 2004, DEKRA has expanded distribution from its first 74,400 caps to nearly 3.8 million child caps as we enter 2025.
