Tangible Sustainability

Nov 03, 2026
  • Sustainability remains a key element of the DEKRA Vision
  • Sustainability Impact 2030+ defines measurable targets
  • Further expansion of sustainability services for customers

With its Sustainability Impact 2030+ strategy, DEKRA is increasing its aspiration to continuously improve its own sustainability performance. In this connection, the focus is on ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, further expand the use of renewable energy, increase diversity, enhance occupational safety, and grow activities in the area of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Details of these topics can be found in the DEKRA Sustainability Magazine which was published a few days ago. As well as discussing DEKRA’s current indicators, progress, and best practices worldwide, the publication provides insights into climate protection projects and the expertise of the independent testing and certification organization.

Carbon emissions cut by 44 percent since 2019, all electricity for DEKRA sites worldwide supplied from renewable energy sources, and sales of around 300 million euros from more than 500 sustainability, ESG, and energy transition services: In recent years, DEKRA has achieved key sustainability targets and laid the foundation for the next transformation phase at the same time.
A large number of recent awards underscore the significance of sustainability efforts in DEKRA’s 2030+ corporate strategy. Examples include:
  • Platinum rating from EcoVadis for the fifth time in succession
  • First place in the German Award for Sustainability Projects 2026
  • Finalist in the Reuters Sustainability Awards 2026
“For us, sustainability is not an add-on or burdensome obligation, but an integral part of DEKRA’s corporate strategy as an independent expert organization,” says Wolfgang Linsenmaier, DEKRA’s CFO and responsible for Corporate Sustainability. “It is our stated ambition to serve as an independent and trustworthy partner in delivering verifiable contributions in the fields of environment, climate, and society for a world in transition by 2030 and beyond.” The company set its course in this respect some years ago, committing itself to the ideals of the UN Global Compact and aligning itself with the universal principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Measurable impact instead of neutrality promises
The DEKRA Sustainability Magazine 2026 illustrates how the company is pursuing a holistic approach to climate responsibility with the DEKRA Climate Impact (DCI) Program. The goal is to achieve a measurable and verifiable impact in respect of climate change mitigation and adaptation and not just compensation-based carbon neutrality. The concept is based on two pillars: the decarbonization of the company’s own operations and climate change adaptation, as well as support for external climate projects.
In its internal transformation, DEKRA is aligning its efforts with the 1.5-degree target. Emissions are recorded, reduced, and quantified using an internal carbon pricing mechanism. Focuses include energy and mobility. At the same time, scenarios, risks, and opportunities are intended to help identify the impacts of climate change on the company at an early stage and develop suitable adaptation strategies.
Support for recognized partners
The second pillar has an outward focus. Via the DEKRA Climate Fund, the company works with recognized partners such as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to support projects that make a measurable contribution to the UN sustainability goals. The aim is both to curb climate change and adapt to its consequences. Support relates to DEKRA’s remaining greenhouse gas emissions and should not be restricted solely to the purchase of carbon certificates or the use of classic offset models.
Sustainability as the basis of entrepreneurial success
As an integrated aspect of the 2030+ corporate strategy, the Sustainability Impact 2030+ concept docks onto DEKRA’s previous sustainability strategy and continues to focus on the following four fields of action: environment and climate, employees and society, supply and value chains, and management and governance. For DEKRA, it is not just a question of its own environmental and social responsibility. It is far more about using the company’s sustainability performance – verified by metrics and actions – as the basis for providing selected services to support customers’ sustainability processes.
Climate and environmental protection services
The service portfolio ranges from support for the energy transition by way of audits, certifications, and risk assessments for wind, hydrogen, and solar projects, through to the recording, verification, and reduction of CO2 emissions, energy management systems, and decarbonization strategies. In addition, DEKRA helps companies by producing life cycle analyses, product carbon footprints, environmental product declarations, and ecodesign concepts to reduce their environmental impacts and drive the transformation toward a circular economy.
This offering is supplemented by training programs that communicate the necessary knowledge for sustainable construction, climate-friendly mobility and traffic concepts, climate strategies, and the successful implementation of sustainable business models.
